Just in case of sunrise

This blog entry is slightly different than other ones I usually post F.Y.I.

Last week was one of the craziest weeks of my life so far. Valentines day was approaching, as was my sister's due date which was set for 2/16/12.
On Valentines Day, my mom and I decided to head to the city my sister lives in which is an hour and a half away. We decided to stay the night and be there just in case.
At about 1:30 in the morning my sister is groaning in pain and having contractions so we rush her to the hospital. Me and my mother sit in the waiting room until 4 in the morning. I fall asleep sitting up in a chair. The nurses there decided to give my sister 2 ambiens and send her home... I was half asleep but I knew that this sounded like a terrible idea. It was terrible, because she was hallucinating by the time we got her home and also still in tremendous pain. I have never been around anyone in labor before, but I'll never forget it. I got perhaps an hour of sleep, because I could hear my sister screaming in the next room until sunrise. Finally at 10 a.m. we decided she's going back to the hospital, even though they told us not to bring her back until the afternoon. We were in the hospital from 10:30 a.m. to 10 o'clock at night. Baby Aaron was born a tiny 5 lbs. 7 oz. He was very cute and I was excited to be an aunt.
So me and my mother had to drive back to our town to get more clothes because we were going to come back the next day to help with the baby. We got home around one in the morning.
The day I worked for half a day, and then wondered where my mom was and if we were going back to my sisters. I was informed around 5 in the afternoon that my dad had, had a very unexpected heart attack.
Off I went to a different hospital in a different town. I cried in the hospital and was still too tired from the day before to think straight. My weekend went by in a blur. My dad survived and was very lucky that he did. The doctors said that if he had not always taken care of himself he would have died because he has a genetic condition apparently.
Right now I'm very thankful my dad is alive and that I am a first time aunt.
I didn't even think about boys this Valentine's day because I was thrown into life and realized there are things more important.
I feel more grown up now just from the past week than I wanted to be, but I don't regret that.

Here are a few pictures from last week I snapped when I wasn't operating on 2 hours of sleep.

I have a weird milk obsession right now. I mixed it up a little and got some strawberry Nesquick that day. I party hard.

A family of kids gave me this on Valentine's day and it's my favorite Valentine's gift I have ever received.

This is Aaron, my nephew. He gets the that expression and the lips from his mom.

This was me at my sister's shower a few weeks before. It just demonstrates how I am still feeling at this moment, so I guess this shot is prophetic. I'm tired.

I'm believing things are going to start looking up now, so I'll be sure to update with some great news that it is. I apologize for a somewhat heavy blog entry, but that's just life sometimes. Heavy.

Hmmmm

In recent news....

1.) I have decided to re-do my room. I am going through some weird transition... or something. I clean things now, give away my clothes on a regular basis, take things off my walls, and watch the same movies over and over again. I am not sure why any of this is happening.

2.) I am obsessed with going on walks. I don't know why, but it clears my head and makes me feel like things are under control. I am not a jogger or a gym person... I actually don't like working out per se, but I LOVE walking. It's an everyday thing for me know. I've also lost ten pounds in the past few months, probably from all that walking.

3.) I wear nice make-up now, use nice shampoo and conditioner, and only buy face wash from sephora. This is such a 180 for me... I always feel weird spending a lot of money on beauty products but the harsh facts were that my skin and hair weren't as good as they could be. So now I wear MAC and Urban Decay, use Redkin smoothing shampoo and conditioner, and wash my face with Murad twice a day. I tell you what ladies, sometimes spending a little extra is worth it. My skin looks better and I don't have to use half as much make-up/shampoo as I used to.

4.) Oh I turned 24 three days ago. It was a weird birthday to be perfectly honest.

5.) I have been wanting to watch Pretty in Pink and Back to the Future for the past month and I have no idea why. I can't explain most of the things I like anymore.

pale blue

This is a brief photo synopsis of all my recent interests for the past two months.
I hope everyone is having a very good 2012 so far. Mine has been full of different things including lots of dreaming, playing piano, lighting scented candles, and looking ahead to the future.

Courtney Love, early 90's

Aladdin Sane girl

I took this picture from my phone while driving down the road in my home town. It was a perfect rainbow and it seemingly appeared out of nowhere. Heroes by David Bowie came on right when I drove under it. I'm taking it as a good sign.

Pictures like this remind me how much bigger everything is than just me, and how much more there is out there besides my tiny problems.

Iggy Pop, 1969. Enough said.

Mermaid girl, early 1960's.

Sound and Vision

Okay I'm taking a cue from one of the blogging girls I follow and doing a post (a month early hah) corresponding with my upcoming birthday. Since I will soon be 24, here are 24 things about me. If you get bored halfway through this... I will understand.

1.) I am obsessed with dying my hair. My signature color has been any form of red for the past 7 years. Currently I look like a flame head. I'm thinking about adding some dark pink soon though... I have always liked pink hair.

2.) I really don't watch TV. It's not for any moral reason or because I think I'm above it... I just hate almost everything on TV. All I will ever watch if I do watch it is Food Network, Vh1 Classic, Reruns of old shows, and recently I've been laughing at the new Beavis and Butthead (though I still think the old ones are better because they had good music videos. Also I wasn't allowed to watch those when they first aired and only saw them at other people's houses hah).

3.)I don't mind getting older at all. It's weird, but I actually feel younger now then I did when I was 20 or 21. I think as I get older I know better to avoid needless stress and drama queens.

4.) I hang out with my mom and brother a lot. I would probably hang out with my sister more if she lived in the same city as us.

5.) Sometimes (actually like everyday) I wake up and just pretend I'm somewhere else all day. I have a pretty active imagination. I pretend like I'm a town of foreigners and I don't speak the native language. I've been happier since I've started doing this.

6.) I didn't sign up for school this semester, the reason being that I want to travel after the beginning of the year. A missions trip perhaps or something. I really want to go to Russia or someplace Northern European.

7.) I have to admit... that sometimes I just want some McDonald's or Taco Bell. I am just not a picky eater (unless it has mayonnaise on it... I put my foot down for that).

8.) I don't enjoy boys who look like mannequins or Ken dolls. I also don't enjoy boys who blast southern rock music, wear skynyrd shirts, and cut their hair very short. I do enjoy boys who love church, have longish hair, want to talk about sonic youth, Seinfeld, or puppies, and are bad to the bone guitar players.

9.) I am obsessed with reading musician and band biographies. I don't know why, but I think it might be because if I love something or am a fan I just want to know every fact about it. I'm not really casual about things. I go big or go home hahahahaadahf

10.) All I ever want to listen to now is 80's synth jams that are cheesy, 90's alternative, girl music, punk, and David Bowie. It's the only stuff that won't depress me anymore.

11.) I do not buy expensive beauty products, but I wish I did. I'm simply to broke most of the time. One day maybe...

12.) My current favorite movies are The Labyrinth(hello Bowie and Muppets. That is a recipe for success), Pretty in Pink (80's, Molly Ringwald, Crazy record store friend, Ducky. All good things) and any Charlie Brown movies because they remind me of being little.

13.) I love Christmas scented candles. They just seem to make EVERYTHING better. Bath and Body work marshmallow peppermint and gumdrop scents are currently on my candle wish list.

14.) I love Iggy Pop lately. He is just so crazy and old I love him. I YouTube his interview and performance of "I'm Bored" from Australia's 'Countdown' anytime I need a spring in my step.

15.) I always have big hair. It isn't intentional it just happens, but I'm not complaining.

16.) I think any cake that doesn't have frosting is only half a cake in my opinion.

17.) I am loving coffemate's sugar cookie flavored creamer right now. I am so sad that it is a limited edition holiday thing.

18.) I love looking up songs on Songmeanings.com. I don't know why, but just reading all the different people's interpretations about the lyrics makes me laugh or think usually.

19.) Sometimes I want to go back in time and kick my 18 year old butt.

20.) My best friends are all girls and it's really a good thing to me anyways.

21.) I like to go out of my way to be nice to people who get made fun of. Even if it means I might get associated with them and get made fun of too. I always remember what being made fun of feels like and I have empathy.

22.) I really love kids lately. Especially the kids I get to teach music too, they always make me feel like I'm actually doing something.

23.) I love to make lists about all my plans for the next year. It keeps me looking ahead instead of backwards.

24.) Sometimes all I feel like I care about is over the hill musicians and not being fake. It gets tiring but what can you do?

This list feels haphazard to me, but I did my best:)

So this is Christmas

So most of my Christmas list this year is pretty boring. All I can think of are things I actually need so my list is mostly things like: Bass drum pedal, snare stand, new high-hat, socks....etc.

This is a list of things I don't actually need, but would still be pretty excited to find under the tree.

Fender Mustang Pawn Shop edition! The only way I could play electric guitar is if it were light enough for me and on the small side. That rules out most Gibsons I think, and plus I just love the look of this guitar.

I love Native American style clothing! I don't know where the Indian obsession began for me, but it's been around since I was a little kid. Maybe it was all those times we had to sing "Go my son, go and climb the ladder..." after the Pledge of Allegence in Melrose Park Elementary School.

I love these earrings too of course. They would go great with that dress I think and my minnetonka moccasin boots.

My David Bowie fangirl ways are pretty well known at this point, and I also have a coffee obsession. That makes this mug the best of both worlds I think.

What do YOU want for Christmas this year?

The two Davids

The two Davids from two different generations are my two favorite celebrity crushes right now.

For some reason the only celeb crushes I ever have are all on musicians. For the most part, I think the actors are just too normal and boring for my taste.

David Bowie! I LOVE his music. I appreciate that he has always marched to the beat of his own drum. I also think this is the only man that can pull off make-up and a bright red mullet.
I really hope he goes on tour again before he gets to old so us that were born in the 80's can see him.

Dave Grohl! Ahhhh I love Dave Grohl. I love Foo Fighters and Nirvana. I am definitely partial to his younger days when he had long hair and no facial hair, but even if I met him today I would probably scream like a little girl and pee in my pants. Not joking.

Pre Ziggy, you can still see that he's got star power in my opinion.

I always thought Dave Grohl was the best looking member of Nirvana. I like Kurt too, but as I get older I am more partial to men who are survivors and aren't incredibly depressed. Also Dave is my favorite drummer (next to Charlie Watts of course!).

My favorite Davids.

Who are your musician crushes? Is it weird that I have a Bowie crush? Or a Grohl crush for that matter?
